General Assembly re-elects Kopp as treasurer for 4th full term

If she serves out her four-year term, Kopp would become Maryland's second-longest-serving treasurer. The record is held by Hooper Miles, who served 28 years between 1935 and 1963.

Kopp was first elected to a partial term in 2002 after the resignation of Richard N. Dixon for health reasons. She has not since faced a serious challenge since then.

In addition to serving on the public works board, which oversees state spending, Kopp also chairs the state pension board and oversees bond sales, among other duties.

Kopp served 27 years in the House of Delegates, representing Montgomery County.

Campbell, last year's Republican nominee for comptroller, was the only candidate besides Kopp to apply to a legislative committee that evaluates applicants. The panel, dominated by Democrats recommended Kopp.
