The three Democratic candidates for governor will meet in a televised debate May 7, the NBC station in Washington announced Thursday.
The debate matching Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown, Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler and Del. Heather R. Mizeur is scheduled for 7 that evening at the University of Maryland College Park on Channel 4. According to the station, "Meet the Press" host David Gregory will moderate.
Justin Schall, campaign manager for Brown, confirmed the plan and said the three candidates are still working out details of the remaining two planned TV debates. The other campaigns could not be reached immediately for comment.
The three candidates are competing in the June 24 Democratic primary to succeed Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is term-limited.
A Channel 4 spokeswoman could not immediately say whether the debate will be broadcast in Baltimore but said it will be carried on the NBC affiliate in Hagerstown, WHAG.
