OCEAN CITY — Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown greeted hundreds of supporters at an Ocean City reception Thursday night, stumping to a crowd of elected officials in town for the Maryland Association of Counties' summer conference.
Tomorrow, Brown's gubernatorial campaign plans to announce endorsements from several county-level elected officials, adding to a roster that includes several high-profile Democrats and dozens of elected municipal leaders.
While the primary for the 2014 governor's race more than 10 months away, hopefuls schmoozed and raised cash in Ocean City this week while hundreds of elected officials from across Maryland come to the beachfront town.
Brown, a Democrat, was the first to jump in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Martin O'Malley, and since May has collected backing from long list of state Democrats including Sen. President Thomas V. "Mike" Miller and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, both of whom attended the reception. The campaign also held fundraiser with tickets advertised for $2,000 to $4,000 a piece.
Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler, a Democrat who also plans to run for governor, earlier in the day chatted with some of the hundreds people convened at the conference. Harford County Executive David Craig, a Republican, also held a fundraiser here on Thursday morning.
The annual four-day event culminates Saturday with an address from O'Malley.
