Benson puts week-long hold on O'Ms state police chief appointment

Prince George's County Sen. Joanne C. Benson wants an extra week to examine a "personnel matter" she wants resolved with Gov. Martin O'Malley's nominee for superintendent of the state police, Marcus Brown.

"There is something that needs to be done," Benson told her senate colleagues Friday morning, when making the request. "You all will just have to be patient with me."

Speaking to reporters after the session ended for the day, Benson would not elaborate on her concerns about the appointment. "We are just trying to get it worked out," she said.

She added: "If we don't get it worked out by [next] Friday, you'll hear a different story."
