Dr. Ben Carson, the retired Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon and former presidential candidate, will help presumed GOP nominee Donald Trump choose a running mate.
Trump told The New York Times in an interview Wednesday that he intends to announce a committee soon that will vet potential candidate for the job. Trump said that Carson, who dropped out of the race in March, would be included in that effort.
"I'll set up a committee," Trump told the Times. "I think on the committee I'll have Dr. Ben Carson and some other folks."
Carson, a former Baltimore County resident who spent most of his career at the head of the pediatric neurosurgery department at Hopkins, endorsed Trump about week after suspending his own campaign.
Trump's announcement came a day after a decisive victory in the Indiana primary forced his main rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, from the race. Ohio Gov. John Kasich is also expected to exit the race, according to several reports.
