Baltimore County schools are featured in a documentary that will air this weekend about President Barack Obama's initiative to help young men of color.

The film, which will run Sunday on the Discovery Channel and the Oprah Winfrey Network, is focused on the president's My Brother's Keeper effort, which uses private money to target job training and educational programs at young men.

"I always see myself in them," Obama said in a portion of the documentary released Friday. "I do know what it means to come of age uncertain about your place and not clear about what it means to become a man."

The film also features students and staff at Halstead Academy, an elementary school that is part of the Baltimore County school system. Superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools S. Dallas Dance is among the staff interviewed for the documentary.

"Our kids, when they graduate, they're not going to be competing with kids from Baltimore County or from Maryland," he says. "They're going to be competing with their peers internationally."

A White House official said Halstead fulfills the mission of My Brother's Keeper by "preparing students for academic success and for life beyond school."

The documentary, "Rise: The Promise of My Brother's Keeper," was produced by Discovery Studios. It will air at 7 p.m.
