As summer departs and the cooler temperatures of fall settle in, the beautiful and vibrant fall foliage begins to decorate the trees around the state.
While peak foliage may be delayed this year, it is a fantastic time for anyone with a camera to capture the scenery. There are many places to photograph the colors on display around the state. Below are a few tips and places to go to enjoy the fall foliage.
The best time to capture the vivid colors are morning and early evening, when the sun is low and makes the red, yellow and orange leaves pop with color. Shooting with the sun behind you will enhance the colors. For a little more dramatic light, don’t be afraid to shoot into the sun when shooting close-ups of leaves.
Using a tripod can also be very helpful when shooting water scenes in the fall. While using slow shutter speeds to give movement to the water, the tripod will help keep the surrounding areas relatively steady
To enhance your colorful tree photos, try using objects to create composition in your photos, such as lakes, bridges, buildings and anything that will add an extra visual component to your image.
