Police believe same man stole cigarettes at one store, then cash at another

Baltimore County police believe that a man, after a failed attempt to steal cash from the CVS on Taylor Avenue on Monday, Nov. 14, moved on to the Walmart on Putty Hill Avenue minutes later, and stole more than $1,700.

According to the police reports, a black male approached a register at the Walmart in the 1200 block of Putty Hill Avenue at 5:14 p.m. on Monday, implied that he had a weapon, and told the cashier to give him all the large bills in the register.

The man left with $1,704.65 and fled in a dark, older-model vehicle, police said.

Police describe the man as a black male, age 30-40, 6-foot-2 with a large build, bald head, and brown eyes.

Less than 20 minutes earlier, at 4:55 p.m. at the CVS in the 1000 block of Taylor Avenue, a man matching the same description of the Walmart robber, entered the store with a white T-shirt wrapped around his hand, implied that he was covering a weapon, and demanded money from the registers.

The cashier refused, and the man grabbed a pack of Newport cigarettes and left without paying for them. Police said that, too, is considered a robbery, even though he did not receive money.

Police said they believe the two incidents are related.

No arrests had been made as of Friday afternoon, Nov. 18.
