South girls fall in Under Armour Classic

After a spirited first half in which they managed to forge a 7-7 deadlock, the South Girls All-Stars fell, 15-10, to the North All-Stars at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday afternoon at the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic.

The outcome means that two-time Towson Times/Baltimore Messenger Player of The Year Covie Stanwick will have to endure a lot of grief from her six U.S. Under-19 teammates on the winning North side.

The Notre Dame Prep star, who had an assist in the game, said that she "didn't want to hear it from them all summer" before the U.S. team embarks for Germany in defense of its world title in August.

Towson resident Jen Cook, who prepped at McDonogh, is also a member of the American team. She scored twice and added a feed in a losing effort on Saturday.

Roland Park Country School midfielder Caroline Seats, Bryn Mawr attacker Morgan Rubin and McDonogh middie Brooks Lawler (1 goal) were the other area representatives for the South.

In the Underclassmen Games, the defending champion Baltimore Girls All-Stars remained unbeaten after easy wins over New Jersey, New England and Upstate New York.

The Baltimoreans, who have already earned a top seed in the four-team playoff, will face the winless South on Sunday morning before competing in a semifinal on 12:15 p.m.
