Towson University will stage fireworks displays at every home football game this season, weather permitting.
But in deference to neighbors, the fireworks will last only one to two minutes, and will be shot off before the Tigers run onto the field at Unitas Stadium, more often than not between 6 and 8 p.m.
TU is conducting a demonstration shoot Thursday, Aug. 25, at around 8 p.m. In the event of rain, it will be Friday, Aug. 26.
The pyrotechnics will be similar to those used for indoor shoots used in facilities such as Baltimore Arena. There will be no high flying items or big boomers, according to Larry Holbrook, TU's director of environmental health and safety.
The university has permits for "public fireworks displays" from the State Fire Marshal for six shoots in addition to the Aug. 25 demonstration: Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.; Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.; Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.; Oct 8 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 12, at a yet to be determined time.
