Field hockey: Towson routs Dundalk in playoff opener

After going 8-7 during the regular season, Towson coach Holly West wanted her Generals to take their game up notch for the postseason.

Towson's 9-0 victory over visiting Dundalk Friday in a Class 2A North quarterfinal could be a step toward that goal.

That win advanced the Generals onto the semifinals, where they will clash with Winters Mill, of Carroll County, Monday.

Winters Mill thumped Lansdowne, 9-0, Thursday.

"They are the number two seed, so they have a better record than we do," Towson coach Holly West said of Winters Mill. "I know they are young. Century is the top dog in Carroll County, but I know we will have a battle. That's for sure.

"We just have to put it all together," she added. "We have certainly jelled as a team. We are capable of playing very good hockey."

Towson jumped out to a 3-0 advantage on Dundalk in the first 11 minutes as Paige Burkett found the back of the cage twice and Emma McDonald scored.

The Generals pushed their lead to 6-0 by halftime behind goals from Maggie Coccagna, Maddie Tribbe and Marissa Feldman.
