Temporary closure of Towson roundabout set for Aug. 21, 28

The State Highway Administration plans to close the Towson roundabout to all traffic on Sundays, Aug. 21 and Aug. 28, to allow crews to mill and resurface the pavement within the circle.

The pavement work is part of SHA's $632,000 project to improve safety and traffic operations at the roundabout.

The roundabout will be closed from  Sunday, Aug. 21 at 12:01 a.m. through Monday, Aug. 22 at 5 a.m. for milling and from 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 through 5 a.m. Monday Aug. 29 for paving.

Messages and detour signs will be posted on the approaching streets: York Road, Dulaney Valley Road, Joppa Road and Allegheny Avenue.

The SHA is encouraging motorists traveling on York Road between the Baltimore Beltway and Baltimore City to plan for extra travel time, and to use the Towson Bypass (Bosley Avenue and West Burke Avenue) or Charles Street for through trips.

Maryland Transit Administration bus riders should also plan for extra travel time and bus route diversions during the roundabout closure.

In case of inclement weather, the roundabout pavement work will be done on the next possible Sunday after the Labor Day holiday weekend — Sunday, Sept.11 or Sunday, Sept. 18 — with detours in effect.
