York Manor neighborhood hosts annual party Sept. 17

York Manor residents are reminded of the York Manor neighborhood party, set for this Saturday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Residents should consult the community newsletter for details.

In addition, residents are invited to bring plants — in pots or bags — to share and exchange with others.

The evening should be a great time to share a meal, play games and catch up on what's going on with your neighbors.

The seventh- and eighth-grade back-to-school night at Ridgely Middle School, 121 E. Ridgely Road, has been rescheduled, and is now being held Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the school gym.

The event is for parents and guardians only.

September is sign-up time for many recreation council programs, and the Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council is offering an interesting new program called Health Maniacs.

Certified health coach Jolie McShane tells us that the classes are designed to be a fun, relaxed environment for learning health tips, tasting recipes and improving overall health. Fall topics are:

• "Smoothie Madness for Energy, Detox and Weight Loss" on Sept. 26.

• "Food Cravings Controlled Quickly," Oct. 24.

• And "Turn Your Picky Eater into a Health Maniac," on Nov. 14.

Register for one or all of the classes at http://www.ltrc.org. Classes are held in Room 120 at Ridgely Middle School, at 7 p.m. Give Jolie a call at 410-299-3032 to learn more about the program.

Also, several dance programs are offered by the LTRC. Registration for tap and jazz wraps up Thursday, Sept. 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Pinewood Elementary School cafeteria. Classes are offered to kids and adults, ages 4 and up. Call Val Hippen at 410-733-2188, or go to http://www.ltrc.org/tapandjazz .

Classical ballet sign up is Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Timonium Elementary School. Classes are pre-ballet for ages 4 (by Dec. 31) through senior and en point. Call Anna Marie Scharbeck at 410-252-8797.

Fall aerobics began this week. The 4 p.m. class on Mondays is held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church's Spangler Hall on Kurtz Avenue. The 7 p.m. class on Tuesdays and Thursdays is held at Ridgely Middle School. Call Karen Yeagle at 410-321-6399.

Registration has begun for winter sports as well. Walk-in registration for boys basketball, for ages 7 through 14, continues this Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Ridgely gym lobby, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Players previously in the program may register online.

New players may register online but will not be officially registered until proof of age is received. There is a clinic for 7- to 8-year-olds, with league play for those 9 through 14. Age determination date is Dec. 31, 2011. Email Eric Kihn at ekihn@verizon.net.

And registration information for girls basketball is posted on the LTRC website. For additional information contact David Sprinkel at david.sprinkel@gmail.com, or 410-252-6514; or Preston Turner at prestonturner@verizon.net, or 410-296-5758.
