Several new teachers will be welcoming students at our local elementary schools when classes begin in less than two weeks.
Joining the faculty at Hampton Elementary School are Charles Gagliano and Bridget Singleton, who will teach first grade; Jill Dunham Wright, a new part-time technology teacher; and Katie Tasch, who is returning after an absence to teach second grade.
Hampton students are invited to attend the Take a Peek at Your Seat event at the school on Friday, Aug. 26, from 1 to 2 p.m.
School may be starting soon, but the York Manor Swim Club has several fun events planned to wrap up the summer season.
This Friday, Aug. 19, is Family Movie night, co-sponsored by the York Manor Improvement Association, from 6 to 10 p.m. Coming up next is Adult Float Night on Aug. 27, Family Fun Day on Aug. 28, and, closing out the season, the annual Labor Day festivities.

Orchard Hills neighbors will be celebrating the end of summer at the 23rd annual community picnic on Sept. 10. Along with the picnic fare, there will be games for kids and grown-ups. Residents may consult their fliers for specifics.
Along with the start of the school year, it's about time for the area's annual fall yard sales.
Mark your calendars, as the Lutherville Community Association kicks off the yard sale season Saturday, Sept. 10.
Next, Orchard Hills has scheduled its yard sale for Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Another popular fall event coming up is the annual Cruisin' for Our Heroes event on Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Fire Museum of Maryland, 1301 York Road, Lutherville.

August is also the time for local clubs and organizations to begin planning activities for the upcoming year — and to kick things off at September meetings.
