Cockeysville Middle School art teacher Denise Webster, was honored as an Outstanding Teacher by the Baltimore-Chesapeake Chapter of the Autism Society of America and Baltimore County Public School's Partnership.
The award was announced at Honestly Autism Day, held April 2 at New Town High School.
The special education staff at the middle school nominated Webster for the award for all she does to promote the success of the students in their two Communication and Learning Support classes and two Functional Academic Learning Support classes.
Also nominated were Deb Magness, as outstanding school administrator; Kathy Rink and Katie Schmidt, also for outstanding teacher; Teresa Doyle, as outstanding paraprofessional; and Cockeysville Middle School overall, as outstanding public school.
Andrew Mulligan, son of Angela and Michael Mulligan, a fourth-grader at Warren Elementary School, placed first in the physics category in the Baltimore County STEM Fair 2011.
Andrew was able to effectively articulate to the judges how he utilized the scientific method to determine how varying the wattage of light bulbs will result in different amounts of heat emitted.
His project included a global implication for how to reduce the amount of energy used in homes.
Andrew impressed the panel with his knowledge of scientific vocabulary and his attention to detail.
Alex Mueller, Warren Elementary's wonderful instrumental music teacher, won the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce Awards for Excellence in the Special Areas Teacher category for the entire BCPS system. BCPS Superintendent Joe Hairston presented the award to Mueller at the chamber banquet.
Melissa Ches and Laura Sherline also represented the school as nominees.
