Soccer: Notre Dame Prep bows to Fallston

Notre Dame Prep coach Chris Lopez couldn't help feeling his team deserved a better fate after Fallston rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory Wednesday afternoon in Hampton.

After all, the Blazers (1-1-1) took the lead after junior Sarah Frey converted senior Erin Brown's through-ball midway through the second half and stayed in control until the 76th minute.

Unfortunately for the home team, that's when the Cougars (3-0) countered on junior Nikki Henrickson's put-back of sophomore Brooke Nigrin's blast off the crossbar to knot the score.

Then, after the visitors dominated the first 10-minute overtime period, Fallston netted the eventual game-winner three minutes into the second extra session on junior Jayme Harmon's one-timer of a pretty Nigrin cross.

"It's never a great feeling when you let one slip away like that," Notre Dame Prep coach Chris Lopez said. "But the girls played very hard."

The Blazers could have jumped out on top earlier in the contest when juniors Rachael Consoli and Casey Clarke nearly broke through after a nice run.

Of course, the Cougars could have said the same thing, considering that NDP sophomore goalie Tori Gabor snatched what appeared to be a sure goal off the foot of a charging Fallston striker a few minutes after the intermission.

The Blazers hit the road on Friday for a 4 p.m. match with the Institute of Notre Dame at Meadowood Park.
