Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson announced Thursday that a $165,000 gift from the Charles T. Bauer Foundation will make it possible for the school to begin construction in the spring on a $1.2 million turf field project in honor of alumna Yeardley Love.
"We are deeply grateful to the Charles T. Bauer Foundation for helping Notre Dame Prep and The One Love Foundation — which Love's family created — close the gap between funds previously raised for the field and the money necessary to being actual construction," Sister Patricia McCarron, headmistress of Notre Dame Prep, said in a statement.
"This project honors both Yeardley's love of sports and her connection to her alma mater, and it keeps her spirit alive at NDP forever," McCarron continued.
Love, a 2006 graduate and standout lacrosse and field hockey player at Notre Dame Prep, was killed in May. George Huguely, who was also a student at the university, is accused of killing the 22-year-old Love.
Since her death, the school has teamed with The One Love Foundation to make the new turf field a reality.
The school anticipates that groundbreaking for the field will take place in spring, with the construction completed at some point in the summer.
According to the release, the Charles T. Bauer Foundation issued a challenge grant, which resulted in a fully endowed scholarship in Love's name and more than $500,000 for the field project.
