New Town coach Douglas McClain was brimming with pride after the his team's dual meet against Dulaney Tuesday night.
The Titans had not only beaten Dulaney for the first time in the seven years of the varsity program; they routed the visitors, 55-15.
New Town improved to 9-5.
"This year has been one of our strongest for a varsity team," McClain said. "We are really coming on strong. The guys have really committed themselves. None of them have stopped wrestling since last year."
The Lions might have underestimated New Town.
"I think our guys were very flat," Dulaney coach Desi McNelis said. "I was very upset with the way they wrestled."
New Town received pins from Colin Manning (106 pounds, 15-2), Kendrick Lowery (126, 1-0), Kenny Ogbuili (170, 12-5), Gary Clark (182, 15-2,), Jamal Sheppard (220, 7-7) and Jonathan Middlebrooks (285, 9-6).
Manning started things off by pinning freshman Jessie Ball in 1:05.
After Dulaney's Devin Cherry (113, 18-2) decked freshman Darryl Watson (8-6) in 3:47, the Lions' Dylan Ruiz (120, 15-4) scored a 12-8 decision over Uchenna Enwonwu (10-6) to go ahead 9-6.
New Town prevailed in the next three matches before Dulaney freshman Sean Hoffman (145, 13-7) pinned Jamal Bradshaw in 26 seconds.
The Titans got pins in four of the final five matches.
"We just matched up with Dulaney really well," McClain said.
