A Purple Friday for the ages will kickoff in downtown Towson today with a lunchtime rally in front of the Ravens logo at Patriot Plaza on Friday afternoon.
The 12 p.m. rally on Jan. 13, held by the Towson Chamber of Commerce, will be the first of three events in the span of a few hours intended to spur on support for the Baltimore Ravens in advance of Sunday's Divisional Round playoff game with the Houston Texans.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Hafford urged all aspects of the Towson community to "wear your favorite purple garb if you care to, and show that Towson has more spirit than any other town in Maryland!"
A group photo will be taken at Patriot Plaza, which is near the County Courthouse off W. Pennsylvania Avenue, to commemorate the rally.
Then, at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the county office building, 111 W. Chesapeake Ave., County Executive Kevin Kamenetz will hold a purple and black pep rally to announce the winners of a weeklong door-decorating contest between the county's various departments.
According to a county news release, some 40 offices decorated their door, and the event will be punctuated by Kamenetz leading the crowd in "a rousing rendition of the Ravens Fight Song."
To hear the fight song played by its originators, fans can head to the M&T Bank at the Towson Town Center at 2:45 p.m. for Towson's stop on the Raven's Purple Friday Caravan, which is making stops all over the Baltimore area Friday.
According to a team release, Ravens cheerleaders, Playmakers, front office staff, team mascots, Baltimore's Marching Ravens and 98Rock staff will be present at the various events.
