Perryville High School sophomore Jordan Dodson won the Maryland State Class 1A Girls Cross Country title Saturday at Hereford High School in Parkton.
Dodson finished the hilly, twisted three-mile course in 19:55.8, some 37 seconds better than Boonsboro junior Sarah Zielinski's runner-up time of 20:32.8.
Dodson's finish, the first state cross country title in Perryville history, propelled the Panthers to a fourth place team finish with 107 points. Cecil County rival Bo Manor won its fourth straight 1A crown with 53. Boonsboro was second with 69 and Mountain Ridge third with 99.
In addition to Dodson's finish, Perryville junior Kaylee Haberkam placed seventh in 21:35.5. senior Jessie Pain was 21st (20th for team scoring) in 22:50.2 and freshman Grace Williams was 38th (35th for team scoring) in 24:23.6. Freshman Sierra Montz rounded out the Panthers scorers with a 50th place (44th for team scoring) finish in 25:10.7.
