Starting Tuesday, the hours at Perryville town hall will be reshuffled in an attempt by town officials to be a little more accessible.
Instead of being open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day, town hall will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.
It will continue to close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and will close at 2:30 p.m. on Fridays to balance out personnel hours.
Town administrator Denise Breder said this will not cost the town any more money and is part of a general effort to be more responsive while being fiscally responsible.
"The reason we decided to change the hours is because the mayor and commissioners wanted to provide better hours of service to town residents. We talked about it, did some brainstorming," Breder said. "In these tight fiscal times, you want to offer better customer service but you don't want to pay overtime to staff to stay here⦠That was the whole key."
The hours will be in effect for a six-month trial period, so nothing is written in stone.
"It's only a six-month trial and hopefully it will work out," she said, adding it should not be much of a hardship to close earlier on Fridays.
"We did a little survey where we counted how many people came in Friday afternoon and it was minimal," she said.
Other than the reshuffled hours, Breder said the town is always trying to improve service but does not have any other concrete plans.
"We are trying to maybe improve our Web site to be able to take credit cards, but I don't know when that would happen," she said.
