Port Deposit post office mural to be dedicated July 20

It was announced at last week's Heritage board meeting that the large mural recently painted on Port's post office wall will be dedicated on Saturday, July 20. In addition, the 200th birthday of our town (1813-2013) will be recognized at the event, which has been scheduled from 10 a.m. until noon. Details are being worked out by the Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce Arts Council as we speak…just make plans to be there – in the square!

Renovations are continuing at Freedom Hall, at the far north end of town, including upgrades to the four bathrooms, locating space for a parking lot and re-doing the entrance ramp. Additional reconstruction will begin as soon as additional funding is received.

Happy birthday to former Port resident and member of the Water Witch Fire Company Fire Police Joe Krick as he celebrated his big day on July 11.

The Water Witch Fire Company will sponsor its next chicken barbecue on Saturday at House 2, Woodlawn Station. The chicken dinners are served from 1 p.m. until the they're sold out.

Darlington Volunteer Fire Company's next breakfast will be on July 14 from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat breakfast are $9. The fire hall is at 2600 Castleton Road, Darlington.

The Paw Paw Museum, sponsored by the Port Deposit Heritage Corp. and at 98 N. Main St., will be open Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The Bainbridge Museum continues to open every weekend from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until December at 6 S. Main St. (the old Bank Building) and it will hold a grand opening and open house on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Cecil County Fair opens next Friday, July 19 at the fairgrounds on Route 273 in Fair Hill. In addition to the midway, the food vendors and the rides, there will be daily exhibitions, lots of music and plenty of fun for all ages. The fair will come to a close on Saturday, July 27.

The Cecil County Food and Wine Festival will be held on Saturday, July 20 at the North East Community Park, North East. The festival gates open at 11 a.m. and the event ends at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at ReMax Vision in North East, Liberty Title Services in North East, Belle Connell's Emporium in Elkton, Serenity Salon and Spa in Chesapeake City and Flicker Scents in Havre de Grace. A Poker Run will be held beginning and ending at the Water Witch Fire Company's House 2 off Jacob Tome Highway on Saturday, Aug. 3. Details to come!
