Perryville All-Stars lose in regional softball semifinal

The 2011 season came to a close Thursday for the Perryville Little League Softball All-Stars, who were defeated 11-2 by New Jersey in a Mid-Atlantic semifinal of the East Region in Bristol, Conn.

Perryville gave up three runs in the first to New Jersey and was never able to catch up.

Perryville scratched out single runs in the third and fourth innings, but New Jersey matched the run in the fourth and then added two in the fifth and five in the sixth to blow open a relatively close game.

Kyleigh Knell and Jewels Jones had Perryville's two hits. Knell had an RBI.

Emily Phillips scored Perryville's first run when Ellen Little reached base on a error. Jones then scored the second run on Knell's RBI double.

Virginia Lewis took the loss, pitching four and a third innings, allowing nine hits, six runs and three walks. Lewis struck out one.

Phillips pitched an inning and two-thirds, giving up four hits and five runs, while striking out one.

Perryville had beaten New Jersey 7-6 on Wednesday in the final game of pool play.
