Art with a Heart on Feb. 3 to benefit SARC

Arts by the Bay Gallery in Havre de Grace will hold Art for a Heart in support of SARC during its opening reception Feb. 3.

During the weekend of Feb. 3 to 5, 10 percent of all sales at the gallery will be donated to SARC, Arts by the Bay director Pat Fair said.

"We usually give a 10 percent to the customer on opening reception sales; this time we thought we would do something to benefit," Fair explained. "We are also asking people who come to opening to visit SARC's website and check the wish list for their safe houses and bring things for them."

The wish list includes vacuum cleaners, new pots and pans, new silverware, baby monitors, portable fans, new robes for moms (sizes small, medium, large and extra large), bed sheets and comforters (twin size), pillows and pillow cases (twin size), vinyl or plastic mattress covers (twin size), bath towels and gift cards for haircuts, among many other items.

The opening reception on Feb. 3 is from 7 to 9 p.m. and is open to public. There's no admission and refreshments will be provided by Laurrapin Grille of Havre de Grace. The gallery is at 500-B Warren St. off Union Avenue.

Fair said the gallery will feature all new art for the opening, including oil and watercolor paintings, photography, pottery, waterfowl carvings and other mediums. The gallery, which is home to 42 artists, holds opening receptions every four months, she said. The events typically draw 50 to 70 visitors.

Arts by the Bay Gallery is open Friday and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. or by appointment by calling Pat Fair, 410-939-4441. The website is http://www.artsbythebaygallery.com/.

Arts by the Bay is a cooperative gallery that operates under the auspices of Havre de Grace Main Street Inc. Artists pay $50 to exhibit, and the gallery receives a 25 percent commission on everything sold. Fair said the gallery also welcomes patrons to help with its operating costs.
