No charges in teen girl fight in Aberdeen

No charges will be filed against either of the two teenage girls involved in a fight Wednesday evening at the skate park in Aberdeen, police said.

Initial reports of the fight indicated the mother of one of the girls was encouraging her daughter to fight, according to Aberdeen Police Department calls for service.

But in looking at a cell phone video of the part of the fight, according to police department spokesman Lt. Fred Budnick, the investigating officer didn't see any indication that any adults were in the area at the time of the fight, around 6 p.m. Wednesday, much less egging on one of the girls.

The skate park is in the 300 block of Center Deen Avenue,

The fight, between a 14-year-old girl from Bel Air and a 13-year-old girl from Aberdeen, drew a crowd, but it was mostly made up of other teens, Budnick said. He added that those in the crowd were egging on the two girls.

The girl who said she was the victim went home to Bel Air after the fight and told her mother about it, Budnick said, then they came back to Aberdeen to report it to police.

"One of them was not more of the aggressor," he said.

If anything, he said, from looking at the cell phone video, the 14-year-old from Bel Air appeared to be more the aggressor than the 13-year-old from Aberdeen.

In looking at the cell phone video, the officer determined no charges would be filed, Budnick added.
