Perryville is at odds with the Cecil County government over a county plan that effectively phases the town out when it comes to being eligible for the local government take from the Hollywood Casino slots parlor in Perryville.

Under the county's proposal, the town would be eligible to receive a portion of the local tax from the casino for the next three years. After that, the county would reduce or eliminate the town's local impact slot machine money.

Town officials have gone so far as to say they struck a deal with the county under which Perryville gets 35 percent of the local impact take, but the county is trying to weasel out of the deal by attaching a sunset clause to the agreement.

The town's leaders are wise to raise a stink about this. Perryville is where the casino is and its greatest impact will be there. Granted, we're of the opinion that the town and county should both use the casino take to reduce the tax burden on local taxpayers, but regardless of how the money ends up being spent, the town, and the people served by the town government, are entitled to a continuous share of the revenue, not three years worth.
