Repaving started on Canvasback Drive

An road in Havre de Grace is getting a much needed facelift.

Canvasback Drive is 22 to 23 years old, according to Havre de Grace Public Works Deputy Director Bill Reeder, and has always received a lot of heavy traffic.

"It was failing miserably," he added.

Some of the problems in the area were also related to polybutylene line leaks, he said, so when they were working on the road they replaced the polybutylene lines, hoping to stop the leaks.

Drivers through the area can see the extensive roadwork being done on Canvasback Drive, including replacement of damaged curbs and gutters to make the sidewalks compliant with regulations in the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as repaving.

The whole project will cost approximately $600,000, Reeder added, from the sidewalk repairs to paving and line striping.

The work started in early September and is scheduled to be completed on Nov. 6, but Reeder said the recent inclement weather may push that back to Nov. 11.
