If playing the UCBAC's hottest boys basketball team had any effect on the Aberdeen Eagles, it did not show Wednesday night, as they put an end to the Elkton Golden Elks' winning ways, 64-53, in Aberdeen.

The loss puts the elks at 6-1 overall and 2-1 Chesapeake, or upper division, of the UCBAC.

The Eagles started with a 6-0 run, but the Elks were able to tie the game, 9-9, halfway through the first quarter. Up 18-12 heading into the second quarter, Aberdeen, helped by a last-second three-pointer from Smoaks, went into the locker room at halftime leading, 28-23.

Up 40-30 four minutes into the third quarter, the Eagles saw a key sequence unfold, starting with Henson being fouled while attempting a three-pointer. After his first two attempts from the charity stripe dropped through, Henson's third attempt bounced off the rim and was rebounded by Aberdeen. Smoaks eventually got off a 15-footer from the baseline, but his shot rimmed out, and there to make a tremendous rebound was Adkins, who reached three feet behind his back at the top of his leap to snare the ball, landed, and went up to make a right-handed layup that gave the Eagles a 44-30 advantage.

Trailing 44-36 after closing out the third quarter with a 6-0 run, the Elks went down 54-43 in the final frame, only to cut their deficit down to 56-52 with just over two minutes remaining. The Eagles, however, outscored their guests 8-1 over the balance of the contest to seal up a victory.

Warriors topped by Mustangs

The Havre de Grace Warriors fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in Chesapeake (upper) Division play on Wednesday night with a 80-54 loss to the host-team C. Milton Wright Mustangs.

Havre de Grace's leading scorer was Lavelle McCullers, who had 19 points. Chris Askew and Elijah Bailey each had nine points in the loss.

Kevin Dorsey led all scorers with 22 points, while CMW's Will Hazelton had 16 points. Both Hazelton and Dorsey led CMW in steals with four. Chris Panzeri scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Mustangs, while Mychal Stefanides had eight points and four assists. The Mustangs Jamal Worthington and Matt Kline both scored six points, and Dorsey dished out four assists.

Panthers knocked off

The Patterson Mill Huskies (5-0 overall, 3-0 Susquehanna) kept its spotless record untouched with a Wednesday-night victory, beating the host-team Perryville Panthers, 73-56.

Perryville's top performer was Gabe Sherrod, who put up 28 points in the defeat. Tyrelle Hollingsworth had 12 points for the Panthers (2-3 overall, 1-2 Susquehanna), while Jacob Morgan netted five points.

The Huskies' Mike Reed had a season-best performance in the victory, scoring 35 points. Jay Kuhn had 15 points for the winning side, and teammate Garett Burkhead scored 13 points.
