Perryville to usher in Christmas with tree-lighting Dec. 14

"O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree." Well it is that time again, folks. The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the lot adjacent to Rodgers Tavern will be held on Dec. 14 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.. There will be caroling, Santa will be there along with crafts for sale and light refreshments.

Calling all crafter to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, where they will hold a holiday bazaar on Saturday, Dec 7. The bazaar will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are interested in selling your crafts, call Becky at the St. Paul's office, 410-272-3111. This event is in conjunction with the Upper Chesapeake Chorus.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church is pleased to announce a Christmas concert by the world renowned singer-songwriter Charlie Zahm on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults. Children under 16 are free. Refreshments will be available in Fellowship Hall following the performance. For more information on Charlie go to http://www.charliezahm.com.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast at Harmony Lodge on Tome Highway will be held on Dec. 14 from 7 to 10 a.m.

A craft show with Santa is Dec. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Principio United Methodist Church, 1511 Principio Furnace Road, Perryville. Grab the kids and hubby for a fun day with Santa. He has gifts for the children and will have his picture taken with them. How about a family picture? A secret Santa room where kids can purchase a $1 gift including gift bag for mom and dad. Have lunch while there, a hot dog or sloppy joe with chips and soda or individually. Soups, pies, breads etc. Eat in or take home for dinner. Perryville Lions Club members will be taking pictures of Santa with children, animals, parents, etc. at the Perryville Outlet Store 39 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21. Please support your local Lions Club and get your memorable photo now. Donation is $5 each.

Good to hear that Frank Garland is on the mend.

Basket bingo is Friday, Jan. 10, sponsored by St. Paul's Women's Retreat. Tickets are $12, $5 per extra. Bingo is at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fellowship Hall, 201 Mt. Royal Ave., Aberdeen. My son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sarah Southall Jr., were guests of honor at a baby shower held in their honor at the Bayou Restaurant . Family members included Roger and I, his sister, Ruth Southall Ventela; grandmother Mary Lou Southall, aunts Cindi Labant, Susie Glatts, Kimi Jenkins and Janet Southall; cousins Carly Labant, Kelsey and Issi Glatts, Randi Jenkins and Kathy Foland; great-aunts Edith Foland and Peggy Scholl; and great-uncle Wilbur Scholl. Family friends Louise Fagan, Wendy Brown, Gail Ashby, Patty Chernick, Diane McGrillis and Joanne Roland also attended. All the guests enjoyed a wonderful luncheon, a couple fun games, a beautiful cake prepared in the theme of the shower with three sets of flip flops in the sand with a February 2014 date. Roger and Sarah received many beautiful gifts, including several "Ravens" outfits.

After the shower a "princess" birthday party was held for Hannah Elsy Ventela in honor of her 3rd birthday at the home of her grandparents, Roger and I. Those attending the festivities were Hannah's parents, Ruth and Karl Ventela; aunt and uncle Sarah and Roger Southall; great-grandmother Mary Lou Southall; great-aunts, Cindi Labant, Susie Glatts, Kimi Jenkins and Janet Southall; great-aunt and uncle Peggy and Wilbur Scholl; cousins, Carly Labant, Kelsey and Issi Glatts and Randi Jenkins and one of Ruth's high school classmates, Delcina Creswell and her children, Stephen and Natalie.

Happy 36th birthday to our son, Roger Southall Jr., who will celebrate Dec. 9.

Leslie Gilliam is send Dec. 9 birthday wishes from the Hribar-Hall Grand Family of the Grand Chapter of Maryland Order of the Eastern Star.
