Annual Irish Festival expected to draw crowds

The 11th annual Penn-Mar Irish Festival will take place 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 18 at the Markets at Shrewsbury in Glen Rock, Pa.

The festival benefits Penn-Mar Human Services, a nonprofit agency in Maryland Line that provides support services for individuals with disabilities in northern Maryland and southernPennsylvania.

The day features traditional and contemporary live Irish music, Irish dancers, Irish food, door prizes, and vendors selling gifts, clothing, jewelry, music, books, pottery, photography, stained glass and more.

A children's activity tent will include crafts, games, face painting, caricature and balloon artists.

Returning bands include: Amhranai Na Gaeilge, Irish Blessing, Martin Family Band, Nua (formerly Rossnareen), the Spalpeens, and Susquehanna Pipes and Drums. Michael Black and the Screaming Orphans are two bands that are new to the festival this year.

Two members of the popular band Ceann will perform a tribute to fellow band member Patrick Halloran, who died following a car accident in February.

Admission is $7 in advance or $10 at the gate. Children 12 and under are free. Visitors can bring lawn chairs, but no pets or coolers.

Additional parking and shuttle bus service will be available at the Penn-Mar North location, 10709 Susquehanna Trail, Glen Rock.
