Newsweek names Hereford High among top 500 U.S. schools

Hereford High School was one of 18 Maryland schools named to Newsweek magazine's 500 best American high schools. Hereford ranked 219 out of 500.

Hereford was one of seven in Baltimore County to make the list. Eastern Technical High School was the highest ranked county school, coming in at 131.

Other Baltimore County schools included on the list were George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, 232; Pikesville High School, 388; Towson High School, 413; Loch Raven High School, 433; and Dulaney High School, 446.

Newsweek Magazine contacted 10,000 public high schools in the U.S. and 1,100 supplied data. The information included graduation rate, Advance Placement tests taken per graduate, average SAT scores and percentage of college-bound students.

Hereford has a graduation rate of 98 percent, with 91 percent of seniors going on to college. The average SAT score was 1686, and students took an average of 2.3 Advance Placement tests.
