Old Mill's Rob Chesson puts on a show almost every time he puts on a uniform.
The senior running back led the Patriots to the Class 4A state championship, rushing for 2,702 yards and a state-record 49 touchdowns.
How would he stack up against the best players in Maryland was another question.
The answer came Saturday afternoon in the 4th Annual Maryland Crab Bowl, a senior high school all-star game that pits Baltimore's best against Washington's elite players.
All he did was to rush for 137 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries to lead Washington to a 14-6 victory at Bowie State University.
"I just wanted to prove I can play with the upper talent, the Calvert Halls and the Good Counsels," Chesson said. "My goal was to showcase my talent and I did. I came here focused and ready to play ball."
While Chesson proved himself as the game's best player, Baltimore's Calvert Hall quarterback Thomas Stuart also had some impressive moments.
Stuart, who was one of three quarterbacks to play for his team, was ineffective in the first half, but made up for it in the final quarter.
Trailing 14-0, he engineered an eight-play, 57-yard drive capped by a 20-yard pass to the left corner of the end zone to Cardinals teammate and wide receiver Trevor Williams with 7:30 remaining before C. Milton Wright's Brendan Magistro's point-after try was blocked.
Before the touchdown, Thomas kept the drive alive by teaming up with Mount St. Joseph's Samuel Benjamin for a 42-yard pass that came on a third-and-39.
"Getting that score gave us the feeling that we could get down there and get another score," said Baltimore coach Brian Abbott, who coaches at Loyola Blakefield.
That's almost what happened after Stuart led his team on an 82-yard drive that ended on the Washington 15 where DeMatha1s Michael Moore stripped-sacked Stuart and recovered the fumble.
"I am proud of our defense," Chesson said. "They stepped up and that's what won us the game."
Washington went ahead, 13-0, early in the second quarter when Potomac defensive back Tavon Young recovered a fumble and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown after Chesson finished a seven-play, 81-yard series with a 15-yard run. He racked up 74 yards rushing on the drive.
"He owns the state record for touchdowns," Abbott said. "He is a heck of a ballplayer. There's no doubt about that. I1d like to have him on my team."
