An article in the Sept. 8 issue of the Baltimore Messenger about the VFW Post 3065 in Hampden hosting a 9/11 tailgate memorial party was very nice, but contained a quote that was very disturbing to some of the members of the post's longtime ladies auxiliary.
One of the veterans told the Messenger, "We haven't had a good ladies auxiliary in 15 years."
We would like everyone to know that the statement is not true. I have been in the auxiliary for 20 years and there are ladies that have 30-plus years, and we have all done things for the post and the veterans. This statement is a slap in the face to the ladies that have worked and helped out in all the functions that were held over the past 15 years and longer.
We have made numerous donations to the post for new bar stools and TVs, as well as Christmas baskets for the needy families in the neighborhood. We have also donated $200 to $500 yearly to Veterans Administration hospitals and to Operation Uplink, which gives free phone time to military personnel overseas.
We have not sat back for 15 years and done nothing. The ladies auxiliary has been there 60 years and all of us have worked hard.
