Best Vineyard/Winery: Fiore Winery

Since its opening in 1986, Fiore Winery in Pylesville has become an integral part of the Harford County community. "We're a family-owned-and-operated winery," says Tony Fiore, grandson of founders Mike and Rose Fiore. "It started as a hobby for my grandfather, and it just kept growing."

Today, Fiore’s lovely grounds are the location for weddings and other events, including several music-and-wine summertime parties. It’s also a regular stop for local wine lovers.

“We grow all of our red wine grapes here and our chardonnay,” says Tony Fiore. “And we have one of the best chambourcins. It’s our signature wine. Harford County is one of the best places in the world for it to grow.”

The Fiores make and sell more than 30 wines, plus vodka, moonshine, limoncello and grappa, from their distillery.

For all of their efforts, the Fiore family has won too many competitions and medals to count, says Fiore. The awards are appreciated, but they’re not the reason the family stays in the business.

“It’s really nice being able to make stuff people enjoy,” says Fiore. “Wine and spirits is a lot of hard work, but it’s very rewarding.”
