Have you visited the brand new Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center? I recently had the privilege of touring the new senior activity center next to the Laurel Regional Hospital with my own mom. She was reluctant to visit because she didn't know why I was making such a fuss about it. She actually dug her heels into the floor of the car, but alas, I was driving so I won that little argument.
Once inside, her eyes widened and she gasped. She was very pleasantly surprised at how fabulous this facility is. It features a lobby; snack bar; fireplace lounge with game tables and cozy nooks to read or chat; a fitness room; a ceramics room complete with kiln; an exercise room; and woodcraft room that is fully equipped.
You'll also find a billiards room, computer lab, conference room and a great room with a large stage and a catering kitchen.
This beautiful modern building was designed to meet the needs of seniors 60 years young and up. If you are 60 or older and reside in Prince George's or Montgomery counties, membership is free. Just visit the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center at 7120 Contee Road, next to the hospital, bring proof of age and residency (driver's license will do) and get your free membership ID card.
If you are 50- to 59-years-old, you may also join but for a fee. It pays to be 60 and above!
My mother joined that day and is happy she did. She checked the calendar and immediately started planning her activities.
The Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center is a warm and friendly place. All of our West Laurel seniors should check it out; you'll be pleasantly surprised.
There will a West Laurel Civic Association area meeting for residents who live east of Bond Mill Road on Dec. 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the West Laurel Community Building. Cpl.
