Happy Thanksgiving West Laurel! Let the holiday race begin. The trees have lost most of their leaves and West Laurel is one big leaf-raking nightmare. But the leaves will disappear as they are swapped with the glow of Christmas lights. West Laurel loves the holiday lights and I always look forward to see who has the most fantastic display.

Santa appears in West Laurel for the annual Tom's Reindeer Run this weekend, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. at the West Laurel Community Center. It's not too late to visit with Santa at the GFWC Woman's Club of Laurel Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 3 with seatings at 8, 9, 10 and 11 a.m. Cost for children is $3; adults and children over 12 pay $6. Reservations are required; call 301-490-8053.

For hometown holiday entertainment, enjoy the play "Miracle on 34th Street," which runs from Dec. 3 to 18 at Laurel Mill Playhouse on Main Street. For ticket information and to reserve tickets, call 301-617-9906 or go to http://www.laurelmillplayhouse.org.

Side by Side is a faith-based nonprofit organization that works to strengthen public schools here in Laurel, benefiting both Laurel families and schools.
