Members of the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad dedicated a new heavy rescue truck to life member Finley doCarmo Saturday, Dec. 10 at a ceremony held at the squad headquarters on Bowie Road.

The new truck is a 2011 Pierce Arrow XT heavy rescue truck, which was placed on active duty in November. It replaced a heavy rescue truck that the squad had used since 1994.

DoCarmo, a former Laurel resident who now lives in Crofton, was a charter member when the squad was founded in 1952, and was a professional firefighter in Baltimore City for 30 years.

"For all the members, old and new, we really felt he epitomized the service of the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad," Chief Mark Arsenault said.

Arsenault said doCarmo helped build rescue trucks in the early days of the squad, and that since doCarmo stopped running calls around 2001, he has served as quartermaster for the station.
