Laurel man fatally wounded in his driveway in Russett

A man who was shot early Friday morning in the Russett neighborhood of Laurel has died in what Anne Arundel County Police are investigating as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Gregory Robert Sears, 36, of the 8000 block of Ians Alley.

Police were called to that address at about 2:23 a.m. for a reported shooting. They found Sears, who told officers that he had been shot after two masked men had approached him in his driveway, police said.

The men had fled on foot. Officers searched the area but did not find them, police said.

Sears was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he later died.

Police said they do not yet know whether the shooting was random or if Sears was targeted.
