Once again, the speed cameras are not about safety or revenue to the city of Laurel (the city of Laurel only receives about 20 cents to the dollar of the fines paid).
The speed cameras are the result of a superb "sales pitch" by the for-profit, Arizona-based company ATS (American Traffic Solutions), and the successful lobbying efforts of their lobbyist whose fingerprints are all over the state's traffic legislation.
