The editorial, "Fort Meade expansion a boon, but increased traffic must be addressed," (Leader, Jan. 12) is right on the mark! The increased traffic generated by the Cyber Security Command and BRAC will mean Better, Realize, Another, Congestion, without the necessary infrastructure in place. The opening of slots at Arundel Mills will exacerbate the problem, which will worsen if table games are approved. This episode typifies our lack of infrastructure planning —develop property and then think about expanding roads at a later date, even though there is not enough revenue or land.
So called "SMART" growth should stand for: Sensible, Manageable, Accessible, Reliable, Traffic. Infrastructure needs to be in place so the reality of SMART can take effect. Apparently, this will never happen because the economic boon has precedence over gridlock.
Can any of our elected officials tell us what your plans are to resolve this major problem?
