Don't be too quick to judge Laurel doctor named in Johnson investigation

The purpose of this letter is not to condemn or condone what Dr. Mirza Baig has done. My purpose is just to state that over the years Dr. Baig has been my family physician and a man that I have considered a friend. It seems in this day and age it is getting harder to separate men and their deeds. We see it screaming in the headlines everyday. However what we don't see is the fact that what is going on in politics is par for the course. We have a group of leaders on Capitol Hill who are being "paid to play" for corporate interests, not the interest of the little man. Unfortunately it is also politics that dictate who gets caught and prosecuted and who does not.

In the lengthy Washington Post article June 5 about Dr. Baig's dealings with County Executive Jack Johnson, one disturbing part jumped out at me: Jack Johnson targeted minorities in his schemes. Maybe he realized that the most disenfranchised groups wanted to make money also, but faced discriminatory practices. Who would know the problems that minorities face better than a minority? I wasn't there so I don't know. I just do not like to see these double standards. The rich want to get richer and they do not care who they trample to get it. But if "pay to play" is that horrible of an offense then it would be safe to say that a very large majority of our current serving politicians need to be prosecuted.

Dr. Baig has been a wonderful doctor to myself and my family. He has helped his patients that have lost their jobs during this recession who could not pay their co-pay and if you did not have insurance. He works with them to make sure that they are keeping up with their health issues. When he refers you to another doctor, he makes sure you understand what is going on and calms your fears. If medications are too expensive he will work with you to see if it is feasible to switch to a less-costly one. I am proud to be a patient of Dr. Baig and between his care and God's grace I am thankful for longevity and good health.

Again lets not rush to judgment, God will judge all in due time.
