Laurel City Council member Edward Ricks and the Laurel Civic Improvement Committee named 12 winners in the city's annual holiday decorating contest.
Winning decorations were nominated by community members, and judged by the committee Dec. 17. Award signs were placed in the front yards of winning houses, and the top six winners also received a ribbon.
Ricks said the committee decided to present an honorable mention award to the Kluckhuhn family, whose 65-foot white pine was decorated with thousands of lights, a 50-year tradition at their Montgomery Street home. Heavy snow two winters ago damaged the already-fragile tree beyond repair, and the tree was removed earlier this year.
The committee named the following homes as the top six winners for 2011: 336 Montgomery St., 801 Green Hill Ave., 14115 Downdale Drive, 303 Sandy Spring Road, 821 Montgomery St. and 9311 Player Drive.
Other winners chosen by the committee were 614 Prince George St., 421 Prince George St., 106 Irving St., 704 Green Hill Ave., 1153 12th St. and 1006 10th St.
