Laurel Rotary names outstanding students

The Laurel Rotary Club recognized Nathan Hastings-Spaine, of Laurel High School, and Angelica Giuliani, of St. Vincent Pallotti Prep, as outstanding students for the quarter.

Nathan Hastings-Spaine, a senior at Laurel High, has a 3.5 grade-point average and plays varsity football. He coaches outside the school for a basketball team of younger people. Active in the student government, National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, Hastings-Spaine plans to attend a university in the fall to study finance.

Angelica Giuliani, a senior, is president of the Pallotti Prep student body, a member of the National Honor Society and has worked on the yearbook. She has helped at St. Ann's Infant Home, with food drives for Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services and with Winterhaven shelter for the homeless. She was a lifeguard at the city pool and is active in sports, while maintaining a 4.2 GPA. She plans to study psychology with a view to medical school.

Both students received citations from Mayor Craig Moe and state Sen. Jim Rosapepe and a certificate and bond from the Rotary.
