Morris Drive, 100 block, Aug. 11. Laurel woman, 90, reported she was scammed after receiving a phone call from someone who said he was public defender representing her grandson, who was in jail over traffic accident. Caller told woman to send $5,300 to pay for vehicle damage and personal injuries to get grandson out of jail, and that she would be reimbursed by insurance company. Woman completed transaction through Western Union and found out next day that grandson was not in an accident or arrested. Police said phone used by caller was in continuing Canada. Investigation.
