Laurel to offer CERT training classes

The city of Laurel, in conjunction with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute and thePrince George's County Office of Homeland Security, will offer a training course for its Community Emergency Response Team, a program that helps residents prepare, respond and react to emergencies and disasters.

The program of seven CERT training classes begins Feb. 16. Most classes will be held Thursdays, 7-10 p.m., at the Hayattsville Municipal Center, with the exception of the Feb. 16 class, which will be held at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute in College Park from 7-10 p.m. A disaster simulation drill will be held Saturday, March 24 at the Laurel Municipal Center, and a CERT graduation ceremony will be held Sunday, April 1 at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. Registration is limited to 25 participants.
