The city of Laurel has a potential buyer for the city-owned property where the former Laurel Police building is located, according to a resolution introduced at the City Council meeting Monday, Jan. 23.
The resolution to name the property at 350 Municipal Square surplus to the city's needs would allow the city to sell the property —which has been on the market for almost three years —to Klingbeil Capital Management Ltd., a real estate investment and management firm based in Centreville, Va., that has experience renovating and rehabilitating properties into apartment buildings, according to its website.
The resolution before the council would only allow for the sale of the property to KCM, not for specific future development plans. Such plans would need to go through the city's standard planning process.
Residents had formerly argued for the police building to be used for the county library, which is now scheduled to be expanded at its current site at Seventh Street and Route 198 west.
