Laurel Police are investigating an attempted abduction of an 11-year-old who was waiting for his bus just after 8 a.m. Wednesday morning in the area of Arbory Court and Van Dusen Road.

Police said while the boy waited, alone, at the bus stop, he was approached by the driver of a truck, who showed the boy a toy motorcycle and asked if he wanted it. When the boy ignored the driver, police said, the driver repeated his question several times then left the truck and walked slowly toward the boy, continuing to offer the toy.

The boy fled the area and contacted his parents.

Police said the driver did not attempt to pursue the boy or physically accost him in any way. They described the vehicle as a dirty, white work-type van with tinted windows and no exterior markings. In addition to the driver, there was a second person riding in the truck. Witnesses told police they saw the truck picking up scrap materials in the neighborhood prior to the boy being approached.

Anyone with information on the attempted abduction can call Laurel Police at 301-498-0092.
