Marriotts Ridge field hockey ends county season with 2-0 shutout of Howard

Marriotts Ridge scored one goal in each half to defeat Howard, 2-0, Monday afternoon. The game, a make-up from Oct. 11, was the last of the regular season for both teams.

The regional tournament begins Oct. 22 and all Howard County teams have byes until the sectional quarterfinals Oct. 24.

Marriotts Ridge, playing without senior starter Jenna Kerr who suffered a foot injury several weeks ago, kept the pressure on Howard in the first half. Maddie Courtney scored the Mustangs' first goal off an assist from Julia Miller.

Caroline Blalock, a call-up from the junior varsity, found Jasmine Williams all alone in front of the Howard goal 30 seconds into the second half for the Mustangs' second goal.

Allison Jakubek had 13 saves for Howard, which was led by Emily Penn, Megan Green and Maddie Regal.
