Howard County Police Pace raises more than $30,000

Centennial Park was jammed with runners and walkers of all ages Sunday morning, Sept. 9 — 1,115 men, women and children participating in the 21st Annual Howard County Police Pace 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run.

"It was an incredible success," Kyri Jacobs, co-chairman of the event, said the day after the race. "The weather was incredible, everyone seemed to have a great time and best of all, we raised a lot of money to help the police department."

This year's event, Jacobs said, brought in an all-time record amount of more than $30,000. The money will be used to fund a variety of charitable initiatives, including a college scholarship program for children of officers who died in the line of duty.

"We had so many runners this year and some additional sponsors," Jacobs said. "We were pleased."
