Get your calendars out because there are lots of things to do in North Laurel. The Laurel Woods Elementary School PTA will be holding an NFL themed picnic Sept. 16. This is a great time to meet the new PTA board, other parents and get involved in your PTA. Do not forget to wear your favorite team colors.
Laurel Woods will also be holding its back- to-school nights Sept. 20 for grades K-2 and Sept. 21 for grades 3-5. Both will start at 6:30 p.m.
The Reservoir High School Boosters are planning its annual homecoming week Thursday night spaghetti dinner Sept. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. Meals are $5 in advance, $6 on the day of the event and are good for takeout or dining in. The Laurel Mill Playhouse will be presenting the one-act play of North Laurel's own John Hayes, "The Pranksters," Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. What a fun way to enjoy a show and support one of our own. The Southeast Horizon Council will hold its eighth annual Family Health Expo at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be a shuttle from the Dollar Store in the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center. The event is free to the public with free health screenings as well as a mobile food pantry for those in need.
Here is an update on the new signs limiting the size of trucks on Whiskey Bottom Road. The signs should be up in about a week and the police department will be notified for enforcement purposes. Anyone interested in fun and adventure while helping a good cause? Terrapin Adventures will be holding a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Training Oct. 2. This four hour session costs $75 and 10 percent of the proceeds will be going to Family and Children Services, in the Multi-Services Center on Route 1 and in Columbia.
